ShengXing Chi,
line by line

Nineteen years of software, told as one line: from the database up, to the front end, to agents that write the code.

First jobs, the whole stack

I wrote the pages, the C# behind them and the database under them, then trained the people who ran them. One developer carried every layer.

The front end becomes the craft

WioWise2014 – 2018

A rich-text editor for writers and a page builder that needs no code.

Trendalytics2018 – 2020

Dashboards that turn billions of online signals into answers for fashion merchandisers.

Quanturban2020 – 2021

Data tools that help developers and city governments plan cities in finer detail.

Leading the front end

Know Your Customer runs identity and anti-money-laundering checks for financial institutions around the world. I joined in February 2022, working remotely from Sanming, and was leading the front end by July. In 2024 I moved to Carlow, Ireland.

A thread that stays

Alongside everything else, one client has stayed with me: Colleague AI, an AI platform for K-12 classroom teachers.

Every chapter added a layer.

Software that builds software

A bug or request becomes a ticket. AI agents plan it, write it and review it. A person approves the pull request.

Kidoka · kidoka.ocxers.com

One ticket in. A reviewed pull request back.

Prompt by prompt

Ask, paste, check, and ask again, with a person carrying the context between every step.

Kidoka

From design doc to a working multi-agent platform in 12 days. Now it builds itself.

One square per ticket Kidoka completed on its own repository.

Before

Prompt by prompt

Chat tools answer one question at a time. A person carries the repository, the ticket and the review in their head.

Layer one

Language models

Broad language, reasoning and code generation. On their own they do not know the repository, its tests or its rules.

Layer two, the core

The agent platform

Agents with roles, a queue of work and a memory of the project, inside a fence of tests.

  • Planning, writing and reviewing agents
  • Jobs on BullMQ
  • State in PostgreSQL
  • Tools over MCP
  • 3,000+ tests as the fence
Layer three

One continuous loop

Every ticket walks the same loop, and each stop is visible.

  • Ticket
  • Plan
  • Write
  • Review
  • Approve
Across every layer

A person approves every change

Agents open the pull requests; a person merges them. 93 agent-opened pull requests merged so far.
